The Top End (english version)

Here we are, in Darwin, hot and wet part of Australia, worst than Broome…

Darwin is the main town of Northern Territory; it’s a dynamic city, full of backpackers, with nights much more excited than days.

The two first days we’ve organized the end of our trip in Oz: booked a car to visit the national parks around, booked the train between Darwin and Alice, booked a tour to see the Uluru, and booked a flight back to Sydney.

After discovering the city, we’re now going to visit the Kakadu National Park; You all now that this is where Crocodile Dundee was shot, so we were expecting to see heaps of them. (crocodiles, not Dundees) The dry season has just started, so few sites were still close because of flooding but also because of crocodiles.

We’ve done a cruise on the Yellow River, to see the sunrise at 6.30am, hundreds of birds and a couple of crocodiles joined us. We’ve also seen some nice aboriginal paintings on the rocks.

On our way back, we stopped at the Lichfield National Park. Some waterfalls and baths in natural pools later, we went to see the four to five meters Termites Mounds, the time to check if they have done a good work and we were on our way back to Darwin.

At night, we met in our dormitory a charming couple of French Speaking Canadians with whom we spent our last days in this city visiting the Botanic Gardens and the Night Beach Market.

Our train to Alice is waiting for us, the famous Ghan will take 27 hours to cross the Nothern Territory, so we’ll need to find an occupation; a dozen of travels books from a travel agency and our Southeast Asia Lonely planet will do the trick. Wish us good luck !
